After some much needed rest in Portland, we set off south, pausing to wave Astoria goodbye.

The North Coast of Oregon is pretty densely populated with many resort towns full of tourists, especially at the time we chose to go through it. Traffic was pretty heavy on HWY 101, but for the most part people were pretty respectful. The view was definitely worth it. In between towns the coast was lined with trees and huge rocks jutted out of the ocean.

Yea, I've never seen Goonies, but this is Cannon Beach and Haystack Rock. Apparently there are caves down in there.

Gorgeous!

It was definitely a bit hilly.

We first climbed a hill behind our campsite to spy the sunset from up high.

Even though it was an absolutely incredible day, the mist fell upon us as the sun went down.

I didn't mention this earlier but the West Coast all the way up to Oregon is susceptible to tsunamis from a fault in the Pacific. There were slightly disturbing/comforting road
signs that told us when we were entering or leaving tsunami hazard zones.

We climbed down and walked towards the beach.

It was sooo romantic.

Here is the required thinking by the beach at sunset picture.

I was just happy to see this.

Check out the moon.

Tim wanted to take a picture of me walking on the beach, but I got distracted by a weird little creature jumping around on the sand.

You can barely see it but these guys are
sand fleas. We preferred our name for them: "sand jumpers."

"Jesus, isn't it Tim"

We climbed out onto the jetty. Tim said the ground looked like Mordor, I tend to agree with him.

All around it was an excellent day.
