Bask in the camaraderie, let it warm your spirits.

Tim was griping about the multiple detours the route made us do, but he shut up pretty quick when we hit these scenes. Much better than a busy highway right through the middle of a town.

There were some seals sunning out on this island, and you could hear them from the beach.

Getting off the highway was actually pretty nice most of the time. The northern part of Hwy 101 in California was pretty scary most of the time. Once we hit the redwoods the road narrowed and the shoulder virtually disappeared, logging and other commercial trucks roared by us barely giving us any room. Tim described the whole experience like a bad video game where the difficulty increases the longer you go, and road hazards pop out of nowhere.

Luckily the route took us off of 101 onto a national parkway that took us right into the campsite. The shoulder was still pretty narrow but traffic was significantly lighter and the giant redwoods had a deeply calming effect.

It was all just way too beautiful to describe or even capture on camera.

After a pretty substantial climb the road gradually rolled down all the way into our campsite, so Tim and I had a wonderfully leisurely roll into camp.

Obligatory standing in front of giant redwood picture.

I think this sign wins the "most obvious" award.

It was actually pointing to a campground or something, but I think its funnier to say it was pointing at this tree.

The campfire gods smiled on us again. We found probably two bundles worth of wood and I built a kick ass fire. This worked out really well because Simon, a 19 year old Swiss kid we met a few days back and Ryan, a former Adult Swim employee who was on the road for 5 months
blogging all about it, came over and we hung out until late chatting about life on the road. The pic is his, I hope he doesn't mind that I jacked it.

When I got up to brush my teeth I noticed that the moon was full. It was a perfect end to a day of calm rides through the woods.

It almost seemed like a page from Tolkien riding through an ancient and massive forest and end the night by a campfire under a radiant moon that completely lit up the night sky and our campsite.
