Port Townsend to Bremerton aka Climbing from Hell

While shopping for dinner in Port Townsend we met a couple of cyclists roughly our age from Brooklyn (as opposed to just New York ;) who were heading the opposite direction as us and they gave us a few tips about the road ahead. They told us about the Hood Canal Bridge, which is a floating bridge that was held together with epoxy until it floated away in the '70s. This bridge was also supposedly one of the most dangerous stretches for cyclists, but they had repaired whatever made it so bad about a month before our arrival. Huzzah for us! The other tip they gave us was a side route that would avoid many of the large hills in Bremerton on our way to our campsite. We must have missed some details because we hit some of the craziest hills yet. The ride wore us out both physically and mentally, and the fact that our campsite was absolutely shitty didn't help much.
We met a family of cyclists that were heading south at breakneck speeds. We were about a day or two behind them for a couple of days, and it was pretty cool to stop at random gas stations or restaurants or something and hear about them.
This picture is one of the craziest hills ever. We were following our route, and Tim jokes, "hey we have to go up this hill." We both laugh and ride on. With great trepidation, we turned around when we realized that our route did indeed lead us up this monster.
